Whilst the trend for giving up something in January might be a useless exercise, most people binge on their chosen weakness come 1st Feb anyway, I asked myself why am I giving up spending money on things that bring me joy! Although I did manage to keep my purse firmly shut when it comes to fashion, I managed to take stock of my wardrobe consider where the gaps are and now know what’s needed. I don’t necessarily need those items immediately, nothing will happen if I don’t actually have them, it’s just the buy now culture we’ve become used it. Of course I’ll still buy things that are pretty on-trend and seasonal but maybe not as often as I once did. I’m trying to have the mindset if I buy something now because I love it, will I still be wearing it in 5 years time.
When it comes to sorting out your wardrobe, I would advise taking some time to do it so you don’t throw things out in a rush when you’re trying to find something to wear. Take a day to really go through everything plus bags and shoes and consider items that have not been worn in 2 years, are you really going to wear it again? The best way to achieve the wardrobe you want is to regularly clear it out and be honest about the things you actually wear and want to wear. That way you can see the shopping habbits you fall into and spot the things missing for your lifestyle. Here are the pieces that I consider timeless and will have them on my wish list for 2020.
