Finally I can share with you our new living room, which wasn’t a major makeover just a bit of paint on the chimney breast and an update of the furniture. Waiting for all the furniture and various items to be delivered was basically the hold up. So the last piece to arrive was the beautiful West Elm side table that we bought from John Lewis, which finally arrived the other day!

We thought we would get rid of our old brown leather sofas and make use of the  space in the bay window area by adding two chairs and a table. We wanted to create an eclectic feel which is why we opted for different items of furniture, you can find out more about my interior inspiration here. We invested in a beautiful pink sofa from the Loaf range at John Lewis. It’s finished in clever velvet making it easy to clean (vital with a toddler and one on the way!) and it really is the star piece in our living room as well as being extremely comfortable.

Sofa £1949.00 by Loaf at John Lewis, embroidered cushion (sold out) M&S, faux fur cushions from a selection at Matalan.

In the window area we added the purple chair that we had in our bedroom and a traditional style leather armchair which we also bought from John Lewis; I might get a cushion for this just to brighten it up a bit. This lovely marble and gold West Elm side table adds a modern contrast sitting between the two chairs.

Purple chair and cushion from a range at Homesense, side table £179.00 by West Elm at John Lewis, vase £12.99 H&M, stone and gold coasters from a range at Anthropologie, Love brass object £24 by West Elm at John Lewis, leather armchair £1499.00, John Lewis.

Now for the rug! We already bought the La Redoute rug that has it’s own Instagram account, it was one of the first things I ordered once we had moved in, and it did spend a bit of time in the living room, as well as in the middle room, but that’s where we decided it looked best. I spent quite a long time trying to find the perfect rug for the living room, one that was going to fill the space but also compliment the other colours in the room particularly the pink sofa. I returned to LaRedoute and discovered this beautiful rug but it was out of stock for weeks and when I emailed to ask when it would be back in stock they weren’t even sure that it would be coming back in stock, plus it was pretty expensive so I never thought we would get it. Then one day the larger size was in stock and at 30% off! I ordered it straight away and then waited weeks for delivery, but it was worth the wait!

Rug (160cm x230cm) £359.00 LaRedoute

As you can see from the pics I’ve now set up a mini office space in the living room, which actually works quite well. It’s neat enough to be tucked into the alcove and this small desk from Habitat is perfect for what I need. Overall quite pleased with the set up and I don’t have to go as far to put the kettle on!

We have filled the chimney breast with books for now but would like to have a log burner perhaps at a later date.

Desk £125.00 Habitat, chair Ebay, similar here, sheepskin rug £30.00 Ikea, pineapple book ends (old) similar here.

We’ve put up the white chandelier that was again in our previous bedroom and it works really well, bringing together the old and new elements and is feature in itself.

There’s not much artwork up in here at the moment apart from this cool print from Bambino Prints but there’s still so many pics that I haven’t put up yet in the house in general so once I’ve figured out where everything goes I will probably update the living room walls.

As you can see we also have double doors that open out into the middle living space and kitchen. It’s quite nice to close them in the evening and keep this room a toy free zone and grown up space.

Hope you enjoyed the living room tour, will be adding more rooms soon and of course we now have a nursery to decorate!
